This kit comprises two boards. The touch pad board has a pair of Contact Switches (the interlaced pads) and a pair of Touch Plates (the solid contact pads). The second board carries the switching circuitry and a latching relay output with LED indicator.
Simply touch the appropriate Contact Switch or Touch Plate pad to turn lights and other low voltage equipment on and off (useful for disabled people). The relay board may be positioned away from the touch pad board for remote control applications.
Touch Plate operation uses the more reliable capacitance method to detect contact but that requires a mains power supply like our 660.446UK to work. Contact Switch operation uses resistance to detect contact. If this is the only method you plan to use then the board can be powered using a 9-12V battery. However, we recommend you use the power supply so that you can test both methods out.
This electronic kit is ideal for education as it demonstrates resistance, capacitance, the electromagnetic relay and a flip/flop switching application using a CD4011 IC.
For a momentary delay action touch activated switch please see our 3137 board.
