This popular power supply uses an L7812 voltage regulator IC together with bridge rectifier section and smoothing capacitors to provide a stabilised and regulated 12Vdc output of up to 500mA. Power-On LED indicator.
Ideal for powering kits 1009, 1013, 1020, 1025, 1026, 1046, 1049, 1052, 1059, 1073, 1080, 1084, 1086, 1088, 1091, 1095, 1112, 1124, 1158, 1162, 1165, 1167, 1172 or any other application where you need a stabilised 12Vdc supply under 500mA.
As supplied (without heatsink) it is quite safe to draw 500mA continuously. This is a very conservative current rating as the circuit is capable of delivering 1 to 1.5A if the regulator IC is fitted with a suitable heatsink and properly cooled. You would also need to uprate the input transformer accordingly.
